Santa Brought Me This
I can’t wait to sink my teeth into this one and find out more about the life of this remarkable writer. A fair percentage of the total words I read in 2013 came from his pen. Jay! What a great gift! I have been eyeing this book, myself. I didn’t get it, but I did get some gift cards. I got Ender’s Game and A Game of Thrones as gifts.
Also, I keep forgetting to mention this, but I have set March 1 for starting The Count of Monte Cristo and I’m giving myself until April 15 to finish it. Don’t feel obligated, but feel free to join me.

My nephew and I were just discussing re-starting our Game of Thrones reading yesterday. I’ve the first two but no further. I love the TV series, though, I think its extremely well done.
Thanks for the heads up on The Count of Monte Cristo. That book mocks me for failing to read it after several attempts. I hope I will put a stop to that this next year, so I plan to join you…

I have London’s The Star Rover on my list for this year and a copy of The Iron Heel I keep putting off. I really enjoy his writing.

I think it’s very recently published. I haven’t read The Star Rover yet. A reading friend of mine enjoyed The Iron Heel last year, but I haven’t read that one either. I did read “Before Adam” and “People of the Abyss” last year though.
London has become a go-to author for me. I have one of those relatively cheap e-book “complete works” volumes which has an inexhaustible supply of London for me. 🙂

Hi Jane,
I am really looking forward to reading it. I think he’s a fascinating character. Like Kerouac in more modern times, a lot of readers react to London more in the “I want to meet that man” vein than “I want to read that man’s books”. Remnants? I’d heard of Wolf house but didn’t know it was no longer standing.

Over the last couple of years, biographies have been some of the best books I’ve read, especially those of authors (Dickens, Brontes, Colette). I only got one book this Christmas, a graphic novel adaptation of Pride & Prejudice. Maybe people feel my TBR is big enough?

I only got two books this year (not counting a barnes & noble gift card, heh heh). Most people are afraid to buy books for me now since they wrongfully assume, “Oh, Jay’s already read everything.” If only…
I’m with you on biographies. Especially author biographies. Why I don’t read more of them is a mystery…
